About the firm
Tenant Protection Group is a team of current city prosecutors. We wrote tenant-harassment law for California cities and prosecuted the landlords who broke it. Now we bring that same work to tenants, directly.
Chapter 01 · How we got here
Eight prosecutors, one thing they kept seeing.
We are a group of eight current city prosecutors. For years, on the government side, we heard the same stories over and over from victims of harassment, housing discrimination, and other illegal conduct by landlords.
We did something about it. We wrote tenant-harassment ordinances for cities. We prosecuted the landlords who broke them, criminally and civilly. We built the rules that hold landlords accountable in this state.
But criminal penalties punish the landlord. They do not put anything back in the tenant's pocket. The person who was harassed, overcharged, or pushed out still has to recover what they lost on their own.
“We went from punishing landlords to helping the people they hurt.”
So we took that experience private. Tenant Protection Group exists to do for tenants directly what we spent years doing for cities. Hold landlords accountable, and make sure tenants recover everything they are owed.
Chapter 02 · The government side
What we did before this.
We currently represent more than 35 cities across Southern California, including several with some of the strongest tenant-harassment laws in the state. We have written ordinances, run administrative hearings, enforced health and safety and fair-housing law, and taken landlords to court when they refused to comply.
We know this law from the inside, because we helped write it.
Chapter 03 · The bench
Tenant Protection Group
Experience on both sides of this.
We have written and enforced tenant-harassment ordinances for California cities.
We have prosecuted landlords criminally and sued them civilly on behalf of the public.
We have handled more tenant-harassment cases than almost any firm in the state.
Rated AV Preeminent for ethics and quality of legal work, and listed among Southern California Super Lawyers.
We try cases and argue appeals, through the California Courts of Appeal and the Ninth Circuit.
You work with the people who know this law cold. No hand-off to someone you never met.
Chapter 04 · How we work
What you can expect.
You will know on the first call whether we can help.
We explain the law in plain English. If we use a legal term, we define it.
You work with the people who know this law, not a junior associate you never met.
We will tell you when you are better off handling the situation yourself.
We send a written agreement before any work starts. You read it before you sign.
The law is on your side.
